Our Glorious God and “Class Blue’s Busy Bees”

  • Early Learning

As I began writing this, I reflected on an exciting moment in our young learners’ journey at Emmaus Early Learning Centre to share and celebrate with you. However, I quickly realised that choosing just one moment was nearly impossible. Do you want to know why?

Because every moment with our learners is a blessing - an extra special moment led by the glory of God from the very beginning of our journey together.

As we embark on this year’s learning adventure, we are guided by God’s word, as written in the Bible:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. – John 1:1-3 (NIV)

Inspired by God, the creator of everything - including us - we explored the story of creation. Day by day, our gifted young learners gained awareness and understanding of how everything began through the Word of God. They experienced His glory in all that He has made and marvelled at how wonderfully it has been shaped.

Using our learning environment as our "Third Teacher," we extended and enriched the children’s learning by providing a variety of experiences. These opportunities nurtured their skills in all areas of development while also strengthening their relationship with God.

Exploring creation through learning experiences

Our hands-on learning activities included, but were not limited to:

  • The Light and Darkness activity: During our group game “Blindfolding,” the children experienced the difference between darkness - when their eyes were covered - and the light they received upon uncovering them. This led to a discussion about the first day of creation.
  • Cloud and rain exploration: To deepen our understanding of the second day of creation, we conducted a science experiment exploring clouds - what they carry and how rain forms. This activity extended our classroom discussions on how God separated the sky from the water.
  • Nature Play and God’s Creation: With inspiration from the verse: And God said, ‘Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.’ And it was so. God called the dry ground ‘land,’ and the gathered waters He called ‘seas.’ And God saw that it was good. Then God said, ‘Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.’ And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day. – Genesis 1:9-13

The children eagerly engaged with nature during our “Nature Play SA” incursion. With curiosity and excitement, they explored, manipulated, and investigated God’s creation—not only to understand and experience it but also to learn how to care for, respect, and value His handiwork.

Celebrating God’s glory through worship

Filled with gratitude for God’s gifts and love, the children expressed their joy through worship. They enthusiastically sang songs such as:

  • “My God is a Great Big God”
  • “My God is So Big”
  • “Jesus Loves Me”
  • “I love the way that God made me”
  • And many more!

Through songs, they witnessed and received God’s presence, celebrating His greatness in their own special way.

Learning from God’s Busy Bees

Alongside our creation journey, we were blessed with a special learning opportunity from Mr. Gordon, who taught us about his “Busy Bees.” The children discovered how miraculously bees were created - each unique, purposeful, and essential to nature.

They learned about:

  • The different types of bees in a hive - the queen, the drones, and the workers
  • How to distinguish between them
  • The role each bee plays in their colony
  • What bees produce and what honey tastes like!

The children’s curiosity and wonder inspired them to explore, question, and engage with the miraculous work of God’s hands.

A Journey of faith and discovery

Through this experience, the children witnessed God’s glory first-hand. They displayed an eagerness to continue their journey of knowing Him - through the countless learning opportunities they encounter at Emmaus Early Learning Centre. Just like the bees, they stay busy thriving, growing, and seeking to discover more of God’s marvellous works. All the glory to You, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
