We have had our first sporting carnival for Term 3; SACSA Year 7/8 and 9/10 Boys and Girls Basketball. This year we had four teams complete in the Year 7/8 age group, two boys and two girls teams and Year 9/10 age group had two boys and one girls team.
As a collective all the teams did very well playing what coaches had prepared them to do and that’s all we can ask and expect. Unfortunately we can not grow or develop muscles over night in readiness for our carnivals - would be nice though!
Year 7/8 boys narrowly missed out on the Grand Final and finished fourth overall and our Year 9/10 Girls finished runners up in a very physically tiring and competitive competition, which was great to watch and admire the players abilities and tenacity.
Looking ahead to next year all our silver team participants can see what to expect for next year and they can see that with continual practice and greater levels of exposure to the sport they can personally feel a sense of belonging and achievement.
As our Basketball program increases it would be good to see these students and others who may not be involved in regular sporting pursuits to get involved playing with their school friends regularly whether it be in the upcoming summer season or next years winter season.

Our weekly SAUCNA winter season for Under 13, 15 and 17 teams has now finished. It has been nice to see many more students involved in our weekly Netball teams. Students have pursued their interests and passions, developed new friendships and remained active - it is so easy to say ‘too hard’ or ‘too cold’ and not get involved.
A sincere 'thank you' to all our coaches, team managers and parents who have assisted in these roles and others during the season. More information about 2022 Summer Netball and 2023 Winter season options will be released soon via email and following Newsletters.
Our other weekly winter season sport teams are continuing in their competitions, including in SA Church Basketball, Life Be In It Basketball, Tennis Coaching Clinics at Emmaus South Plympton and Brooklyn Park campuses, Southern Areas Junior Netball Association and Southern District Junior Soccer Association.
It has been pleasing to see students continue to attend training sessions and developing their personal and team skills to bring about greater game performances and involvement. Seeing students come together, sharing a laugh, helping one another if injured, and supporting their peers when challenged, is what we want to witness through our various sporting programs. There are so many life skills that can be learnt through a supportive and inclusive sports program. Not all matches or seasons are about individual game results - win or lose. They are also about the journey individuals and teams take to bring about improvements within their physical, emotional and mental areas.
For students in Junior (South Plympton and Brooklyn Park campuses), Middle and Senior School Summer Sport options and information will be communicated to the Emmaus Community via email and newsletters very shortly for 2022 / 2023. Please understand that the Summer sport season starts Term 4 this year and continues through Term 1 2023, so any commitment made by students is for the whole season conducted over both terms. Information on sporting options to be sent home will also include Tennis.
Alessandra has returned from a recent Basketball Tour of USA.
Olivia was recently selected as one of 24 players to attend the Australian Under 19 Netball Identification Camp at the AIS in Canberra.
The camp includes multiple matches, game reviews, specific fitness, footwork, positional and skill sessions, as well as recovery sessions. All the sessions were filmed, and then sent to a selection panel with Suncorp Super Netball Coaches on the panel too. Olivia hopes to be selected to receive a Netball scholarship within the AIS in her respective state, which is under SASI. We wish and pray for Olivia to achieve her passion and goals.
Panache is on a high after receiving a Senior Contract with Adelaide United for Soccer, but he has also now been selected as one of 30 players to trial and train with the Young Socceroos Squad as part of their talent identification camp held in Canberra this week.
Both Olivia and Panashe have come so far after so many injuries, illnesses and setbacks, but through persistence, sacrifices and support from family and friends it is great to see and hear of them having personal success now and hopefully continuing this in to the future.
If you have any student achievements you wish to share with our community, questions or queries regarding upcoming sport carnivals, season sport options or anything else H&PE/Sports related feel free to email sport@emmauscc.sa.edu.au and we will do our best to reply in a prompt manner.
