As one of our College values, we often talk with our students about how God blesses us so that we can be a blessing to others. This brings glory to God and models His love for people through our actions.
Last week, our Year 6 students from Brooklyn Park had a unique opportunity to put this into practice with a community service excursion. We visited Lighthouse City Mission in Port Adelaide, where Pastor Mike shared inspiring insights about how Christians can demonstrate Christ's love and grace by helping those in need. He drew from Proverbs 14:31, reminding us again that being kind to the needy gives honour to God. It is an act that not only brings joy to the recipient but also to our Heavenly Father’s heart!
The students dove into action, spending the morning packing food parcels for people in need. In teams, they prepared sandwiches and packed lunches to be delivered to local schools for children who might otherwise go without food. They also assembled over 50 family food hampers, which will be a true blessing for families facing tough times. Before heading back, we prayed over the packs and hampers, that those who receive them will know they are loved and be blessed.
I am incredibly proud of our students, for the way they threw themselves into service with an attitude of joy! They grasped the heart of the mission, and many students commented that they had a lot of fun and they felt great knowing that what they were doing would help someone else (see student quotes below photo gallery).
A huge thank you to Richard Heath and Joel Overweel for organising this fantastic opportunity for our students.

"I really enjoyed the excursion because I got to experience serving others 'behind the scenes'.😀 It also felt good opening my heart to serving others who are in need and aren't as privileged as us and for what we take for granted. I thought the excursion was a good idea before we go to middle school and that we know what some people are going through even if they don't show it, so this will bring awareness to us Year 6s before we go on the journey to high school." - Mia
"It was great helping pack hampers and making sandwiches for families and children who are going through a hard time. I was grateful for Mike and his team for providing us lunch." - Yoyo
"Going to lighthouse city mission church was a great experience for me, getting to serve in the Port Adelaide community through God. Creating lunches and hampers for the people of that community was amazing." - Maxi
"I loved going to the Lighthouse Mission not just because of the games there to play but also because I got to help the children who didn't have lunches and the bags of noodles, pasta, milk, etc. It made me really happy knowing that those things were going to families, children, and basically people in need, and that they didn't have many things for their kids or dinners, breakfast, or lunch." - Zawadi
