21 – 27 August Week 6

The theme for this year’s CBCA Book Week is Old Worlds, New Worlds and Other Worlds.

Book Week is a chance to celebrate books in the lives of individuals, our collective world and in libraries. It also marks the announcement of the Book of the Year awards by the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA).

In our College Community from ELC to Year 12. it is also a chance to have fun…With literature at the heart of the celebration. The world of books and words is always fun!

Book Week 2021 is in Week 6 of term and it will be busy!

Photo Booth Event

So that our entire community can join in the fun, every class and year level can be involved in a photobooth event with costumes, masks or hats that reflect the theme of Book Week 2021. This will be a head or head and torso photoshoot within a ‘frame’ with a costume.

Some classes may also take pictures of their favourite book or a book from one of the Old Worlds, New Worlds and Other Worlds hiding their head! Our intention is for classes to have fun thinking about the theme and how they might express it in a creatively crafted photo. The photos that are taken may then be shared and displayed at a later time.

Your child’s class teacher will be coordinating how the photoshoot occurs for their class

Individual classes will choose different times to coordinate their photoshoot.

Junior School will have their dress up photoshoot day on Tuesday 24 August.

Middle School and Senior School may take their photos in Week 7 (due to the musical performance) Please check your child’s teacher’s advice about when to bring in a costume.

Older students will be likely to just bring in their costume or prop for the photo event and will not be expected to ‘dress-up’ for a parade or whole school collective photo opportunity.

ELC students will receive their own instructions for celebrating Book Week.

Drama Performance for ELC to Year 6

This year we have organised a drama performance for the ELC to Year 6 students presented by Perform! An alternative Live streaming event will occur if restrictions for gathering numbers are not lifted by this date. The Brooklyn Park students will join us (in person or online)

Perform! Dates:

Monday 23rd August 9.10am for Year 3-6

Monday 23rd August 10.40am for ELC to Year 2.

In the true spirit of Old Worlds, New Worlds and Other Worlds, the celebration of books will take place over days and weeks. Each day will be a new page, a new setting and a new opportunity to consider the place that books have in our world. The Library at South Plympton will also host some low-key lunchtime activities for students in a setting that will be surrounded by books that are waiting to be read.

Kind Regards
