Course Summary
Year 10 Design is a semester program. Students work through practical and theory units to develop their Design knowledge, skills and techniques in graphic design. Through research, idea development and practical experimentation, students created resolved works using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. Students learn how to use sophisticated visual arts language when writing artist statements and analysing a variety of design works.
Course content
Introduction to Adobe Illustrator: Folio Evidence of Learning | Develop proficiency in Adobe Illustrator tools through weekly skill tutorials. Submit a 4-page folio demonstrating your learning and application of vector design techniques. |
Adobe Illustrator: Animal Illustration | Create an original animal illustration in Adobe Illustrator demonstrating skills with shape drawing, layer management, custom shape editing, fill and stroke colour changes, and producing at least four recoloured variations. |
Adobe Illustrator: Sticker Design | Create an original typography-based sticker design for custom printing onto waterproof vinyl. Stickers must use an offset path and evidence of type exploration. |
Adobe Illustrator: Icon Design for Clothing | Create an original design for clothing demonstrating knowledge of what makes an effective icon. Designs are single colour only and are made onsite using a Cricut cutter and heat press onto student clothing. |
Adobe Illustrator: Product Label for Fruit Drink | Create an original vector pattern utilising AI generated imagery and skills already learnt in the previous practical projects to create a new label for a drink bottle. |
Adobe Photoshop: Surrealism | Complete short Photoshop tasks to learn creative image manipulation and composition based on the scenario: “Imagine you open a portal to a surreal landscape.” |
Visual Study: Design Elements and Principles | Explore and experiment with Adobe InDesign through a range of basic tasks about selected Design Elements and Principles. Develop technical skills and visual thinking by analysing professional design practices and presenting findings, conclusions and insights using design language. |
