Course Summary

Year 10 Design is a semester program. Students work through practical and theory units to develop their Design knowledge, skills and techniques in laser cut product design and graphic design. Through research, idea development and practical experimentation, students created resolved works using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. Students learn how to use sophisticated visual arts language when writing artist statements and analysing a variety of design works.

Course content

Practical

  • Introduction to Adobe Illustrator with vector based designs
  • Laser Cut Product Design (clock’s using the theme of Positive and Negative Space)
  • Introduction to Adobe Photoshop: Andy Warhol inspired Pop Art portraits or Advertisements for ‘Nude Food Day’ fruit photomanipulation
  • Work with local designer to design and create a class calendar
  • Logo and packaging design for existing food products

Theory

  • Understanding the effects of the Design Elements and Principles in critical analysis
  • Design appreciation including an introduction to design analysis, artist statements and evaluation

Assessments

  • Folio work (research, idea generation, explore and develop, refinement)
  • Practical assessment for major works of design
  • Theory based analysis tasks
