Course Summary:

Why do people live in poverty? What is development and how can countries develop? Are we managing Adelaide’s coastline effectively? Is tourism pursued on Kangaroo Island at the expense of its natural environment? How are countries responding to climate change?

In Year 10 Geography (one semester) we unpack these great questions facing the next generation of Geographers. Students will gain the knowledge, skills and hands-on experiences on Kangaroo Island to make better sense of these relevant issues and the world around them.

Course content:

Coastal change and management

  • What challenges are coastal environments facing?
  • How do we manage our coasts?

Kangaroo Island Geography Camp (3 days)

  • How are human activities on Kangaroo Island impacting the environment?
  • How effectively is the environment on Kangaroo Island being managed?
  • Visits to Seal Bay, Flinders Chase National Park, Stokes Bay and other significant locations

Development Geography

  • What is development and how do we measure it?
  • What are the causes of global inequalities?
